本文探索了五金的起源.根据多种经典工具书的注释,可知五金一词有两个含义:第一、作为材质来讲,五金指金、银、铜、铁、锡五种金属,泛指各种金属,本文称之为五金材质.第二、作为产品来讲,五金指铜、铁等制品,泛指金属制品,如五金零件、装饰品、金属制建筑器材、家用器皿,锁、铰链、钉子、刀以及工具等,本文称之为五金产品.本文从宇宙诞生开始探讨了五金材质的起源和在地球上的布局过程;从地球上诞生生物及产生古猿、猿人开始探索了人类使用工具的历史和五金产品的起源.本文查阅了近千万字的资料,根据当前最新的科学研究成果,广收博引,追根溯源;视野开阔,气势恢弘.同时表明了笔者关于宇宙和中华文明史的观点.

The Source of hardware is explored. According to lots of classical reference books, the word “HARDWARE” has two means： First, as material, hardware delegates the five metals——gold, silver, copper, iron and tin, and widely all metals, it is called hardware materials in the paper. Second, as products, hardware delegates copperware, ironware etc, and widely articles made from metal, such as hardware part, adornments, timbering made from metal, house wares, locks, hinges, nails, knives, and tools ete, it is called hardware articles made from metal in the paper. Begin at naissanee of universe, the source of hardware materials and distribution process in the earth are pointed out; Begin at naissance of life-form, of ancient ape and of pithecanthropus, the history that tools were used and the source of hardware articles made from metal are researched. Consulted near ten million words literature,based on new science study results at present, the paper quotes to classics to trace to the source. The paper is of a wide field of vision, and is full of power and grandeur. At the same time, a point of view for universe and Chinese civilization is put forward.
