Probing the Truth in the History of Translation——Zheng Zhenduo: One of the Pioneers in the Translation Theory of China's Modern Times

郑振铎是我国新文化运动的倡导者,他不仅给读者留下了众多的译作,而且在翻译理论方面做出了可贵的贡献,尤其在关于文学作品的可译性、关于翻译的意义与功能、关于译者的责任、关于“信、达、雅”三字理论以及关于整个近代文学翻译史的评述等翻译理论方面,其建树甚多,有史为证。

Zheng Zhenduo, an advocate of the New Cultural Movement of China, has not only left many translation works, but also made valuable contributions to the theoretical understanding of translation. China has witnessed his special contributions in the translatability of literary works, the significance and functions of translation, the responsibility of translators, the interpretation of the three-word principle of “faithfulness, expressiveness and gracefulness”, and his critical review of literature translation throughout the modern times.
