谈英汉翻译中的数字陷阱

On Translation Pitfalls in the Way of English-Chinese Translation of Rhetorical Numbers

翻译过程中,经常会遇到包含精确数字却难以照字面直译的表达式。本文作者试以《汉英大辞典》(上海交通大学出版社1995年版)上一句常见成语的歧义翻译为例,深入探讨英汉两种语言中的修辞性数字隐喻的翻译问题。

It is a common phenomenon that an expression with an exact number or numbers in it could not be translated accordingly. This paper tries to probe into this phenomenon on the basis of the misleading translation of a common Chinese idiom with numbers in it by Chinese - English Dictionary （Shanghai Jiao Tong University Press, 1995 ）. The author of this paper also discusses the problem of translation of rhetorical numbers between English and Chinese.
