An Investigation into QIAN Qianyi’s Whereabouts in the Early Qing Dynasty

钱谦益降清后,短暂仕清,托病辞职返乡,先后两次被捕,原因不很明朗,主要是清政府对贰臣不信任,兼有各类人物在证据不确的情况下告发,仓促成狱。虽然,钱谦益能够逐一化解,财尽案结,思想难免波动;他坚定了立言于世的决心,勤于著述,力求将功补过。

After QIAN Qianyi surrendered to Qing Dynasty, he worked temporary as an official for Qing dynasty and then retired to his hometown by pretending to be ill. He was arrested twice vaguely because he was not trusted by Qing Dynasty as a former official of Ming Dynasty and he was sued by different figures even without evidences. Though he finally got himself released by using up all his properties, he felt indignant. At last, he was determined to devote himself to writing books.
