文章认为,中国共产党人不仅提出了实事求是的思想路线,而且根据社会实践的发展,不断创新和发展了实事求是思想路线的内涵:毛泽东提出实事求是的思想路线;邓小平提出了解放思想,并把党的思想路线发展为解放思想、实事求是;江泽民同志又提出与时俱进,并把它与解放思想、实事求是并列起来,共同构成新时期党的思想路线的内涵。党的思想路线的丰富与发展是由不同时代的社会实践、历史特点决定的。
