张謇的区域发展观是一种协调的发展观,重视经济与社会、文化事业的全面发展,关注人与自然的和谐发展,推进城市与乡村的互动发展,“南通模式”因此而获得了巨大的成功。但是,张謇忽视了区域之间的相互分工、相互联系和相互开放,“南通模式”充满了农业社会高度自给、不仰赖他人的理想色彩,终因缺乏竞争而显得活力不足,进而严重地阻碍和制约了南通区域现代化的可持续发展。

Zhang-jian＇s region developing idea is a concordant idea for developing, attaching importance to the concordant development of economic, society and culture, paying attention to concordant development of man and nature, carrying forward development of city and countryside each other , so “Nantong Model” won great success . But Zhang-jian ignored the division of work in different regions, cooperating with and opening to each other. “Nantong Model” was full of self-sufficiency idealism of agricultural society. It lacked competition and vigor so that it restricted continued development on modernization of Nantong region .
