舍伍德.安德森(SherwoodAnderson),美国小说家。在文学创作上,他继承了马克.吐温的语言风格,作品语言明白如话,简洁有力;在语言技巧方面,颇受同时代的女作家格特鲁特.斯泰因的影响,通过语言的重复来表达强烈的感情。他的代表作《俄亥俄州的温斯堡》(又名《小城畸人》)(Winesbury,Ohio)使他蜚声文坛。《小城畸人》是美国小说中的一部经典作品,它由25个短篇组成,《双手》是其中一篇。舍伍德.安德森的创作特点影响了后来的作家诸如海明威、福克纳、沃尔夫和斯坦贝克等。

Sherwood Anderson, an American novelist,carried on Mark Twain＇s language style and developed a style of being clear, simple and forceful. Furthermore, he was much influenced in language techniques by his contemporary female writer Gertrude Stein who expressed strong emotion through the repetition of words and sentences. His representative work Winesburg, Ohio brought him sudden fame. It is a classic American novel which is a collection of 25 related stories and Hands is one of them. Sherwood Anderson has great influence on such writers as Ernest Hemingway, Faulkner, Thomas Wolfe and John Steinbeck.
