Theresultsof5yearsfolow-upof84casesofmandibularresidualridgeaugmentedwithhydroxlapatite(HA),folowedbyridgeextension,arereported.Thefirstsurgicalprocedures,subperiostealHAinsertion,andthesecondstageoftotalloweringofthefloowofthemouth,vestibuloplastyandskingraftaredetailedlydescribed.Theridgeisaugmentedbythefirstsurgery,disturbanceofthefraenumsofthelip,bucalandtongueandmusclesareeliminatedbythesecondsurgery,toincreasedentureretentionandstability,improvewear-resistingoftissuecoveredovertheartificalridgeandeliminatepainanduncomfortwhenwearingdenture.Theresultsoffiveyearsfolow-upshowthattwostagesreconstructionarebeterthanHAinsertiononly.HAisakindofide-almaterialofbonereplacement,whichisnotresorbedinmostcases.
