The Y zeolite was pulverized by air stream in order to get fine particles. The particle size distribution, total and external surface area, and XRD were determined for both the raw and fine particles. After the Y zeolite being pulverized, a narrow particle size distribution was found, the total amount of particle of 0 6 ̄2 0 μm reached 86%, and the surface area changed slightly, but the intensity of XRD peak increased significantly. The crystallinity of fine NaY particle calculated from XRD peak intensity is 101 1%, and that of raw NaY particle is 82 1%, indicating that the air stream pulverization has not destroy the crystal form of NaY zeolite, on the contrary, the content of pure NaY crystal increases. The particle size of pulverized NaY zeolite is generally larger than 0 5 μm, there is no destruction of the internal crystal cell structure happened. The catalytic activities increased apparently in the cracking reaction of hexadecane and cumene on the fine Y zeolite as compared with the raw Y zeolite, but no difference was found in m xylene isomerization and toluene disproportionation, illustrating that the air stream pulverization only changes the particle size of Y zeolite, and gives no effect on its crystal channel length.
