“爱智慧”的哲学与“实用主义”的儒家——兼谈西方儒学研究的误区

The "Intelligence-loving" Philosophy and The "Pragmatic" Confucian: Also Discussion on the Misunderstanding of the Studies of Confucian Thought in Western Countries

儒家思想具有“实用主义”的特征,这种“实用主义”是一种能够与病以药的真实智慧,即能够通过对人心的治理达到和谐人伦和安定社会的目的。由于现代西方哲学已经沦为“科学的婢女”,丧失了哲学本有的“爱智慧”之意义,也丧失了对现代社会病症的医治能力。而受到科学精神影响的西方哲学方法论也不适合于研究以开显性德为目的的儒家思想。社会问题和社会危机的加深会使人日益认识到儒家思想的实用价值,西方学者对儒家思想的体悟和理解也会加深。

The Confucian thought is characterized by “pragmatism”, which offers the true intelligence, just like “treating sickness with medicine”. In other words, it can arrive at the goal of building harmonious relation within people and a stable society. As the Western philosophy has become the “servant-girl of science”, it has lost the original meaning “intelligence-loving” of philosophy and also lost the capability of treating the sickness of the modem society. The Western philosophy methodology affected by the scientific spirit is not suitable for the study of the Confucian thought, which aims to cultivate nature culture. With the increase of the social issues and the crises, people will come to understand the pragmatic values of the Confucian thought, and the Western scholars will deepen their understandings of Confucian thought.
