摘要
本文结合英语和汉语的实例,对英国语言学家利奇提出的词语意义的七种类型做了简要的评述.并在此基础上,就该语义理论对英语词汇教学的意义和作用,从宏观上提出了两个方面的启示:一是英语词汇教学应注重英汉概念意义不对应词的教学;二是英语词汇教学应结合词语的社会文化背景知识来进行.
With examples from both English and Chinese, the paper makes a brief comment on the seven types of meaning proposed by Geoffrey Leech, a British linguist. Then the two general implications , which axe drawn from the classification, axe discussed: (1) The English words that do not have their equivalents in Chinese should be carefully dealt with in vocabulary teaching; (2) English vocabulary teaching should be conducted with the cultural factors concerned.
