典籍英译:意义、主体和策略

Translation of Chinese Classics into English

本文着重探讨困扰典籍英译的三个重点问题,即为什么要译,由谁来译和怎样来译.而这三个问题其实也是翻译界有关文化翻译、翻译主体和翻译策略三个热点问题的浓缩和具体体现.笔者认为把中国典籍翻译成英语是加强中西交流,让世界了解中国的一个必要途径,中国译者有资格、有义务从事典籍英译的工作而且在翻译时应采用异化的策略.

This paper deals with three important questions in the translation of Chinese classics into English： why, who and how. These three questions coincide with cultural translation, the subject and the strategy in the field of translation studies. The author holds that it is of great importance to translate the Chinese classics into English, that both native Chinese translators and English-speaking translators can do the job, and that in terms of translation strategy, foreignization instead of domestication should be adovted.
