李鸿章是洋务运动的核心人物,他毕生致力于洋务事业,积极从西方引进先进的军事装备、生产机器和科学技术。主观上李鸿章只是想引进西方的某些物质文明,增强满清王朝的国家实力,实现自强。但客观上李鸿章毕竟创办了一系列新式近代企业,为中国培养了一批技术人才,为中国近代工业的发展奠定了一些基础。

Li Hongzhang is he key man of westernization movement. He applied his whole life to foreign affairs, actively fetching in advanced military facilities, producing machines and scientific technologies from the West. Subjectively, Li wanted to fetch in some western material civilization to strengthen the Qing dynasty, and to make the country self - reliance. While objectively, Li set up a series of new neoteric enterprises, cultivated many technical manpower for China, and laid the groundwork for the development of China＇s neoteric industry.
