Promotion of National Spirit in the Context of Globalization in Present Vietnam

民族精神在民族的生存与发展取向中有着非常重要的作用。越南民族精神创造于越南整个历史过程并表现于越南文化传统的价值观中,它在越南为独立与民族解放而奋斗的过程中发挥了充分的作用。当前,民族精神对许多民族的改革与现代化至关重要。在全球化背景下,稳定保持与弘扬民族精神首先要保持与弘扬那些创造了民族文化同一性的传统价值观;其次要选择适宜于越南条件的模式,要积极地与世界融合,广泛参与与世界其他民族的对话,学习其精髓以丰富本民族的文化同一性。

National spirit is a national consciousness, which has been established and crystallized during the whole existence and development of a nation. It is the foundation for national will and character manifesting in the values of national cultural tradition. National spirit plays an important role in the orientation of the existence and development of a nation. It is its faith and aspired aim. The national spirit of the Vietnamese is the national consciousness, which has been created during the whole historical process and expressed in the values of the cultural tradition. It is the very spirit that has created the will and strength for the Vietnamese to sustain and develop the country during the thousand-year history. In other words, national spirit is a crystallization and sublimation of the traditional values of a nation, among which the two most important are patriotism and the spirit of national independence. Those two values have a very strong attachment to each other to create the essence of the national spirit. Patriotism is a foundation to build the spirit of national independence, which, in its turn, fortifies patriotism. Active integration into the world and intensive engagement in dialogue with other nations worldwide in order to acquire their quintessence to enrich the national cultural identity is an effective way to achieve that aim.
