On Yan Yisheng's art of Chinese painting

严宜生先生有40余年的教学生涯,教学之余他还执着于国画的创作与研究,取得了较好的成绩,并形成了自己的绘画风格。他以自己出色的的艺术敏感和智慧,成功地在笔墨、色彩和构图等艺术形式上融合中西,继承传统又推陈出新,并用寓意、象征等手法,使作品超越其国画形式本身,趋向一种物我依存、天人合一的境界。

Yan Yisheng has been engaged in the teaching for over 40 years. In his spare time of teaching, he has insisted on creation and research of Chinese painting and made good achievement, forming his own painting style. Owing to his outstanding artistic sensitivity and intelligence, he succeeded in innovation of the artistic forms such as brushwork, eolour, composition, etc. by combining the Chinese painting skills with the western ones as well as by inheriting the traditional painting skills. He used the allusive and symbolic methods to make his works transcend his Chinese painting form and realize the realm of harmony of nature and man.
