Developmentalism and Consumerism: The Difficult Situation and Outlet of Developing Countries' Social Development

“二战”以后,发展主义或开发主义逐渐演化为发展中国家主导的意识形态。发展主义在不同的历史时期有不同的表现形式:在现代化的初创阶段,发展主义主要表现为一种以高积累、低消费为主要特征的重工业优先发展战略;当进入大众消费阶段,消费主义便成为发展主义的主要表征形式。因此,理清发展主义与消费主义的理论渊源、相互关系以及现实走向关系到广大发展中国家发展的成败,如何超越发展主义与消费主义便成为发展中国家解决困境和寻求出路的关键。

Since the Second World War, developmentalism or exploitablism has been becoming the guiding ideology of developing counties. There are different manifestations in different historical stages for developmentalism. In the initial stage of modernization, developmentalism is mainly manifested as a development strategy that priority is given to heavy industry and high accumulation and low consumption is regarded as principal character. And while getting into the stage of large-scale consumption, it is consumerism that has been becoming dominant manifestations of developmentalism. Hence, it is critical for developing counties to rationalize theoretical origin, mutual relationship and actual trend between developmentalism and consumerism and find a way out.
