Flannery O'Connor, the American Southern woman writer, is termed as a racist writer by some critics, because she never showed a clear-cut stand to support the blacks in the Civil Rights Movement. In fact, O'Connor, who lived in the South for her whole life, did have some racial prejudice. However, her religious belief determined that she sympathized with the blacks and that she held abomination in racialism. In her works, O'Connor analyzed and criticized the racial prejudice of the southerners, especially the southern intellectuals. This paper delineates the complicated racial stand of O'Connor a non-racist writer who has some racial prejudice.
