天津大学是中国近代史上的第一所大学,历史悠久,人文荟萃。在建校110周年的办学历程中,不仅积累了丰富的办学经验,也形成了许多优良的校风和学风,这既是天津大学的宝贵财富,也是整个中国高等教育的宝贵财富。在天津大学建校110周年之际,认真总结中国高等教育的办学经验,探索“大学精神”,使之成为先进文化的重要组成部分,对当代中国教育特别是高等教育的发展,具有十分重要的现实意义。

Tianjin University is the first institution of higher learning in modern Chinese education, which has a very long history and a comprehensive humanism and culture. During the 110 years since its foundation, Tianjin University has not only accumulated rich experience of running school, but also formed many excellent school spirits and styles of study, which are treasures to Tianjin University, even to Chinese higher education. It is practically significant to sum up the Chinese higher education running experience and explore “the spirit of university”, making them an important part of Chinese advanced culture.
