Brief Introduction of Vasiliev′s The Compendium of Chinese Literary History

俄国著名汉学家瓦西里耶夫是世界上第一部中国文学通史的作者,比中国人自己写作的文学史早了24年。作为一名19世纪的汉学家,他对中国文学性质和特点的论述体现了中国文化在欧洲人眼中“异己”的传统形象,对中国文学起源的考察和中外文学关系的论述,在当时语境下具有开拓性价值。瓦西里耶夫的文学史观是在欧洲文学理论的基础上,与中国传统文学理念相融合而形成的。

Vasiliev, the famous Russian sinologist, was the author of the first survey of Chinese literature in the world, which was 24 years earlier than the literary history written by Chinese people. As a sinologist of 19th century, his viewpoints of the properties and characters of Chinese literature revealed the traditional impression-“deviation” in European＇s view. His investigation of Chinese literary origin and the arguments on the relation between Chinese and foreign literature had pioneering values in that situation. Vasiliev＇s view of literary history was formed on the base of European literary theory and by the combination with the concepts of Chinese traditional literature.
