The curtain has finally come down on the much-publicized trial of Lau Ping-cheung, a former member of Hong Kong' s Legislative Council, who was accused of alleged corruptive practices in the election for the Legislative Council held last year. The accused was found not guilty and was immediately acquitted and released. But notwithstanding that the dust arising from this prosecution has mostly settled in the wake of the verdict, the repercussions resounding from the trial have, in many respects, still remained looming in the air.
