This paper presents some opinions about setting differential protection for large generator-transformer units. A 300 MW generating unit is illustrated as an example. The opinions in this paper include the methods of short-circuit current calculation, per unit arithmetic, protecting zone and sensitivity, and how to set the blocking function when current transformer circuit is open.
