Graceful Music from Heaven and Melancholy Rhyme from Hell——A comparative study of Keats's Ode to a Nightingale and Allan Poe's The Raven

出于对现实世界的不满,诗人从未停止过对理想世界的渴求。在济慈的《夜莺颂》和爱伦.坡的《乌鸦》这两首咏鸟名篇中,诗人都想借助鸟儿的歌声,避开现世烦忧,到美的世界中寻找精神家园。但两位诗人对理想乐土的理解不同:《夜莺颂》中,诗人诠释了一个充满和谐之美的世界;《乌鸦》中描绘了一个幽怨悲怆之境。两首诗在艺术特色上也不尽相同:济慈的《夜莺颂》有如天庭雅韵,婉转悠长;而爱伦.坡的《乌鸦》恰似鬼域悲音,惊心动魄。

Out of discontentment with the earthly world poets have never stopped tneir pursuit for an ideal world. Both in Keats＇s Ode to a Nightingale and Allan Poe＇s The Raven, famous poems eulogizing birds, the poets want to fly together with the birds to a carefree world. But as for what the ideal world should be, Keats and Poe give us quite different answers. Keats depicts a harmonious and warm world while Poe escapes to a horrible and desperate world. The different content is also expressed in different artistic styles. Keats＇s Ode to a Nightingale is like a song from heaven, tender and thought-provoking while Poe＇s The Raven is like an elegy in the hell, shocking and threatening.
