On the Influence of Zhuangzi's Thought on Ruan Ji

阮籍是魏晋时期的玄学大师,他的道家思想深受庄子的影响。阮籍以庄子的最高理想境界———“逍遥游”为自己的人生目标,又深得庄子批判精神的精髓。阮籍追求心灵的自由逍遥,批判束缚人身心的虚伪名教,但其实又是儒家正统思想的捍卫者。这是他与庄子最大的不同。

Ruan Ji was a grand master of Xuanxue （Dark Learning） in the Wei and Jin Dynasties. His Taoist thought was deeply subject to Zhuangzi＇s influences. Ruan Ji took Zhuangzi＇s summit ideal state, ＂Xiaoyaoyou＂ （Care-free Peregrination）, as his own life goal, and he fully secured the quintessence of Zhuangzi＇s critical spirit. Ruan Ji pursued the heart＇s freedom and carefree and he criticized Confucian false moral norms that fettered people both physically and mentally. But actually, he was also a safeguard of Confucian orthodox thought and it was the utmost difference of Ruan Ji from Zhuangzi.
