荨麻疹通常称为“风疹块”或“风团”。主要表现为一过性瘙痒性水肿。表浅的水肿俗称风团，表现为中央粉红色或灰白色，周围圈以红晕。皮肤粘膜下较深的水肿称为血管性水肿，好发于口腔、眼睑、生殖器，但也可见于身体其他部位。
Urticaria is commonly known as＇nettle rash＇or ‘hives’. It preents with short-lived, itchy swellings. Superficial swellings, known as weals,may be pale or pink in the centre and are surrounded by a red flare. Deeper swellings of the skin or submucosa are termed ＇angio-oedema＇. They are usually seen in the mouth or on the eyelids or genitalia, but may occur anywhere on the skin.
