加州大学伯克利分校只有130余年的历史,建校后30年它就进入了美国著名大学的行列,60年就获得了诺贝尔奖,并发展成为一所世界一流大学。是什么原因使伯克利在不太长的时间里取得了如此辉煌的成就,本文从历史发展、办学理念、学科建设和社会服务等方面对此进行了探讨,以期为我国一流大学建设提供有益的参照。

Among the world- class universities, California University at Berkeley is relatively young. It has only a history of over 130 years, yet it became one of the famous American universities at its 30, one of the American research universities at its 60, and got its first Nobel Prize the same year. This paper probes into the factors that make the University excellent from the aspects of the historical development, educational idea, subject construction, social service, etc.
