The deep meaning reflected by F. Schott Fitzgerald's descriptions in his masterpiece The Great Gatsby of the three major female characters, Daisy, Jordan and Myrtle, is analyzed. In the text, all the three women are selfish, hollow, materialistic, and all of them have tragic ends. In a profound sense, Fitzgerald's description of them can be seen as a part of the symbolism used in the whole novel, and it deeply reflects the writer's serious thinking on the American social value.
