“四声”的发明,历来颇多争议。但将“四声”的发明归之于齐永明沈约、周颐诸人,既存在混淆创立四声与使用四声的失误;以佛教之梵呗转读作为四声理论的源头,亦有将音乐之事与文字声韵之事等同的嫌疑,且不符合史实。从现有文献来看,“四声之目”应始于刘宋之末,由王斌首创。

According to the actual documentations, the contrivance of ' the eyes of the four tones started in the end of the Liu'sSong dynasty among the Six Dynasties and its inventor was Wang Bin(王斌)
