摘要
自1877年至19世纪90年代,清政府曾四次派遣福州船政学堂学生赴欧学习西洋造船、驾驶技术,以期加强中国的海防建设,“欲与洋人争衡”[1](卷61P8),是为早期留欧教育。而早期留欧教育是以洋务派的海防忧患意识为内驱力而展开的。
From 1877 to 1890s the Qing government keeps sending for four times the students from Fuzhou Shipping Academy to study the ship - manufacturing and steering skills in Europe so as to strengthen the coastal defense in China. The intention of the early European study is to keep balance with the westerners. And the key concern for the “foreign matters” administrators is the coastal defense in China.
