Ideological Influence on the Practice of Translation: Chinese Translation History (1895-1919)

翻译研究派代表人物之一安德烈.勒菲弗尔认为,翻译是一种改写。在不同的历史条件下,改写受意识形态和诗学两方面的限制。改写者往往会对原作进行一定程度上的调整,以使其符合改写者所处时期占统治地位的意识形态和诗学形态,以达到改写的作品被大多数读者所接受的目的。文章通过对1895年至1919年间中国翻译史的研究,证实了勒菲弗尔观点的合理性,并运用该理论对这一时期个别重要翻译家作了中肯的分析评价。

Andre Lefevere, as an important representative of Translation Research School, believes that translation is a kind of rewriting restricted by ideology and poetics of a special period. The rewriter tends to manipulate the original work to satisfy most readers who accept the dominant ideology and poetics. Through careful research of Chinese translation history （1895 - 1919）, this paper demonstrates the reasonable elements of Lefevere＇s theory, and makes an objective evaluation of some important translators of that period.
