The safety monitoring system of the Three Gorgs Project is a comprehensive system with multi level and close structure and relating to many specialties and disciplines.For the purpose of ensuring long term safety operation of the project, a careful review of the technical design of the monitoring system was organized and completed in a course of two years. This paper briefly summarizes this design review, analyses its peculiarities and outlines the main problems discussed in the review. Finally, works for improving the monitoring system in tender design are proposed.
