Introduction on LIDAR and Its Application in Digital Drainage Area

This paper introduces the theory and merits of light detection and ranging（LIDAR）, and compares it with the conventional photogrammetry. Then on the basis of the analyses of the character and demand of the digital drainage area, the analytic result indicates that it is necessary to using the LIDAR technology to solve the data acquisition in digital drainage area. At last, the text illuminates the advantages of application LIDAR in constructing digital drainage area through an illustration.
