摘要
英国文学有着悠久的现实主义传统,既写实性精神、社会批判精神和传统小说形式。本文通过对现代意识流小说家弗吉尼亚.伍尔夫的前、中、后期代表作品的详细分析,揭示了体现在伍尔夫创作历程中的现实主义传统。这表现在:伍尔夫前期在现实主义小说形式中进行现代小说的探索;伍尔夫中期对现实主义小说传统形式的扬弃;和伍尔夫后期寻求现实主义和现代主义小说在内容和形式上的有机结合。伍尔夫的创作历程有力地说明了,现代小说家之所以伟大是因为他们站在现实主义传统这位巨人的肩膀上。
English literature has a long history of realist tradition. The paper is suposed to reveal, through the analysis of the works of the English modem novelist Virginia Woolf, the realist tradition, that exist in her whole literary career. The result is demonstrated in three aspects： first, Woolf started her modem fiction adventures from the creation of the traditional novels at first stage; second, Woolf modified the traditional fiction form. in her modem fiction writing at the middle stage; third, Woolf attempted to combinc the realist tradition and modem fiction at the third stage. Woolf＇s literary. career forcefully demonstrates that modemists＇ greatness was based on the realist traditions.
