A new lexical term comes into being on certain cognitive and social grounds and goes on with its semasiological changes for various motivations. Traditional semantics has contributed much in this respect in the manner of diachronic and synchronic descriptions, but is still far from satisfactory. Despite the fact that Metaphoric Cognitive theory turns out to be powerful in the interpretation of the semantic changes, this paper invites IITSC to have an alternative insight into the brand-new term“gray collar” by claiming that the essential motivation for the semasiological changes lies in the invited inference on the authoritative effect basis other than metaphorization.
