一词多义现象是不少学者怀疑、误解索氏符号理论的诱因之一。本文通过对索氏符号理论的进一步阐释,对多义化的历时探索以及对多义化的认知解析,认为一词多义与索氏符号理论并不矛盾,多义词的词形与其任一词义之间的关系是任意的,理据性只存在于多义词的词义与词义之间。

Saussure's Sign Theory has been widely accepted since it was born. However, doubt, misunderstanding, even negation of this theory often occurs. Polysemy is one of the causes of the nagative attitude. The authors of this article make a further interpretation on Saussure's Sign Theory and analyz e polysemy from a diachronic and cognitive perspective, drawing a conclusion that polysemy does not contradict Saussure's Sign Theory, since the form of a polys e me is in the arbitrary relation with any meaning of the polyseme and motivation only exists between the meanings of the polyseme.
