From the early 1880s to the end of the WWI, the Jews in Eastern Europe immigrated to the US in exodus to avoid the anti-semitism waves in the Russian Empire and neighboring regions. Since many of them left in family groups and stayed permanently in the US thereafter, the sex and age groups of Jews were more balanced than those of other “new” immigrants in the same period.
