This paper reviews the emergence and development of Intelligent Manufacturing Technology, and its application to chemical production. The use and progress of digital instrumentation and integrated process control and business management are emphasized. The prevailing technology, conception of ERP, MES, DCS, SCM and APS and their relationship are discussed.
