Lenampicillin is a prodrug of ampicillin. After oral administration, lenampicillin is hydrolyzed to ampicillin which is responsible for the antimicrobial activities in vivo. Lenampicillin shows better oral absorption than ampicillin. In this article, the pharmacology, pharmacokinetics and clinical studies of lenampicillin were reviewed . It may be helpful for the doctor in prescribing lenampicillin.
