摘要
Brown和Levinson的“面子理论”(Face Management View)是用于论述和解释礼貌现象的一个颇具影响力的理论。但B&L的理论是建立在西方文化(这里指以英语为本族语的西方国家)基础上的面子保全论,所以对其在跨文化普遍性方面很多中外学者提出了不少置疑。面子理论在中西方文化中存在着不同的侧重点,且具有不同的文化特征。探讨和对比不同文化背景下面子差异有助于消除在不同文化背景中的人们交往的一些障碍,更有效地促进跨文化间的交际。
Brown and Levison＇s Face-Management View is an influential theory in expounding the phenomenon of politeness. Brown and Levison＇s Face-Management View was founded on the basis of the western culture. Therefore, a lot of critiques on its intercultural universality have been put forward by many scholars both at home and abroad. “Face” has different cultural features between Chinese and Western cultures. The discussion about these differences can help to clear away the communicative obstacles encountered by different people with different cultural backgrounds and effectively facilitate the intercultural communication.
