Objective This study was to find out the contents of the trace elements in children's hair in the Railway District of Linfen, and to discuss the relationship with children's nutritional sums. Methods The contents of the five elements, Fe, Zn, Cu, Pb, and Se, in 325 children were identified by the Atomic Absorption. Meanwhile, their nutritional status were evaluated. Results All contents of the five trace elements were among the normal reference values and were in the balance. By comparing the gender, it was found that the Fe content of the girls was a little bit lower than that of the boys (P〈0.05). When the age was compared, the contents of Fe, Cu, Pb were slightly varied with the age groups (P〈0.05). In addition, the contents difference of the five trace elements between nutritional group and normal group was not significant (P〉0.05), while the contents of Fe and Cu in the normal group were lower than those of overweight group and adiposity group (P〈0.05). Conclusion The influence of the trace elements on the development of the child's body and mind should not be underestimated. Balanced foods are needed in order to maintain the balance of the trace elements.
