From "Fairyland" to "This World": A Comparison between The Tempest and The Collector

《暴风雨》是英国文艺复兴时期伟大的戏剧家莎士比亚的一部传奇剧,《收藏家》是二十世纪英国著名作家福尔斯的第一部小说。两部作品在结构上有着相似之处:女主人公米兰达都被恶人觊觎并囚禁,但他们的命运和处境却截然不同。本文通过两个米兰达生活的不同环境、遇险后的不同的处境、遭遇到的恶的势力、爱情的经历的比较,来勾勒出莎士比亚笔下仙境一般的世界和福尔斯笔下的地狱般的世界,清晰地看到人类的美好理想和现实世界中的种种痛苦和无奈。

The Tempest is a legendary drama by Shakespeare. The Collector is a novel by Fowles. There are similarities in the structure of these two works. Two Mirandas, the women protagonists in these works are both coveted and imprisoned by evil people, but their destinies and situations are completely different. Making the comparison in four respects： different environments of the two Miranda＇s lives, different situations after their getting into danger, their encounter with evil forces, their experiences of love, the paper tries to sketch out the fairyland in Shakespeare＇s work and the hellish world in Fowel＇ s work. Thus one can see clearly the bright ideal of human beings and all sorts of pain and helplessness in the real world.
