An investigation is reported of the laser surface cladding with selt-fluxing alloy of Fe-Cr-Ni system on a medium-carbon steel substrate, using a preplace powder method. The effect on cracking susceptibility and physical propertis of laser cladding layer has been studied in relation to its Ni content. With the increment of Ni content, thermal expansion coefficient, melting temperature range of clad layer and its wettability to substrate have heen changed, and the cracking susceptibility of clad layer has been decreased obviously. The effect of physical propertis on cracking susceptibility of clad laver has been discussed.
