Management, Its Connotation and Artistic Value in A Dream of Red Mansions

不少研究者曾论及《红楼梦》中的“理家”,但大多就事论事,用来为现代管理者提供参照则可,而系统阐释《红楼梦》中“理家”的内涵和功能则不足。《红楼梦》中贾府的“理家”模式属于典型的中国封建社会家族式管理,作者曹雪芹结合个人经验,生动再现和理性思考了曹家盛衰与“理家”之间的联系,相关思考在构建故事情节、塑造人物等方面都有着举足轻重的艺术表现作用。

According to modern management theory, the management pattern in the JIA family is the typical Chinese feudal patriarchal style, in which many managerial critics and scholars have done a lot of research. However, most of them use A Dream of Red Mansions as a vehicle, simply quoting part of the novel to express their own management ideas and theories in an attempt to learn something from the past and provide lessons and advice for contemporary management. Although these kinds of research can touch upon some management thoughts, they fail to analyze the management in the JIA family in an overall and systematic way. What＇s more, regarding its artistic value, such analysis can not fully reflect the importance of management and its clue function in A Dream of Red Mansions. The thesis, based on the whole novel, analyzes the JIA family＇s management in a comprehensive and systematic way with modern management theory. It tries to summarize the root and law of this patriarchal management so as to understand the author more accurately and thus discuss its artistic value.The thesis argues that in A Dream of Red Mansions, CAO Xue-qin, the novelist, exposed to the readers the process from wax to wane of CAO family and practiced some rational thinking of the family “starting from business and ending in politics”. Those thinking plays a vital part in planning the plot and depicting the characters.
