外文出版社《红楼梦》英译“节选本”纠谬

A Critique of the Condensed Version of Hongloumeng (The Yangs' Translation A Dream of Red Mansions)

杨宪益和戴乃迭的《红楼梦》英译本ADreamofRedMansions有多种印本,其中有一种节选本。出版节选本的原意是良好的:为中外读者提供汉英对照的本子以供学习和欣赏。但是,我们发现节选本有严重的错误,很可能误导读者。其错误:一是汉语原文是草率地附加到杨译本上去的;二是“文库本”本子与“节选本”本子之间的自相矛盾。

The Yangs＇ translation of Hongloumeng （ A Dream of Red Mansions ） has been reprinted several times in China and a condensed version of it is available. Despite the publisher＇ s good intention of providing readers with a text in Chinese-English bilingual form for language study and literary appreciation, the publisher committed serious mistakes in the editorial process. In an effort to correct the misleading and erroneous bilingual form, this essay points out two textual problems in the condensed version. One is the Chinese original was attached to the Yang＇s translation,and the other is Wenku Version and Condensed Version are contradict themselves.
