On the Poems of SHI Yan-nian

在北宋中期诗坛上,石延年同欧阳修、梅尧臣、苏舜钦一起努力求新求变。他的诗具有意气标举、雄奇豪纵的鲜明艺术风格,在多种题材和体裁上都有足以传世的佳篇警句,对于欧、苏、梅、王(安石)、黄(庭坚)乃至宋词的创作都有影响,他无愧于北宋诗文革新的前驱者和“诗豪”的美誉。

Among the poets of the mid- North Song Dynasty, SHI Yan-nian, along with OU-YANG Xiu, MEI Yao-chen, SU Shun-qin, strived to be creative. His poetry is distinctive in a powerful, unrestrainded and subline style. He wrote many everlasting verses in various themes and poetic forms, having impact on OU-YANG Xiu, SU Shun-qin, MEI Yao-chen, WANG An-shi, HUANG Ting-jian, and even SU Shi. He is a poet who should be treated as a pioneer of literary innovation in his age and deserve the reputation of bard.
