From Margin to Mainstream: The Development of Chinese American Women's Social Status

从19世纪30年代至今,华裔妇女移民美国已有一百七十多年的历史。在经历了漫长而艰辛的挣扎之后,她们依靠着自己的努力逐渐由社会边缘跻身主流社会。本文借鉴令狐萍在其著作《金山谣:美国华裔妇女史》中将华裔美国妇女的移民史划分为三个时期的方法,将华裔美国妇女从社会边缘到开始跻身主流社会的历程也划分为三个时期,并着重从女性主体意识和美国多元文化的发展过程等方面来阐释这一历程。

From 1930s to the present, the history of Chinese women emigrating to America has been more than 170 years. After experiencing a long and painful endeavor, Chinese women have started to integrate themselves into American mainstream society. By employing Linghu Ping＇s method of defining Chinese American women＇s migration history in Gold Mountain Ballad： History of Chinese American Women, this thesis divides the improvement of Chinese American women＇s social status into three periods. To explain the three periods, this thesis also analyzes the development of women subject consciousness and multiculturalism.
