On Mother Tongue and Its Safety

当今社会,母语问题的意义已远不能局限在语言学习的领域里,它已经与民族平等、民族独立问题联系在一起,母语的概念应进一步明确区分为自然母语和社会母语两个不同的层次。社会母语的安全涉及它的地位是否得到保障,它的语音、词汇、句法是否受到其他因素的影响而出现大量不规范现象。影响母语安全的原因,一在出现过多的“自然母语转移”;二在其他强势语言的入侵;三在网络语言的不规范现象。中国的母语安全意识淡薄,已到了必须重视的地步。对于一些不正常的英语升温现象,不仅应从语言立法、语言规划层面上来纠正,还应从理论上加强对社会母语问题的研究与宣传。

In the present - day society, the significance of mother tongue has gone far beyond the domain of language learning and associates with national equality and independence. Mother tongue divides into two styles,natural mother tongue and social mother tongue. The safety of the social mother tongue involves the guarantee of its position and the appearance of numerous abnormal phenomena as a result of effects of other factors on its phonology, vocabulary and syntax. The threat to the safety of social mother tongue usually comes from three sources, namely, appearance of too much “transfer of natural mother tongue”, intrusion of another more influential language, abnormal phenomena in network language. We Chinese have a very weak consciousness of the safety of mother tongue, the state of which has now become even worse. For the overwarmth of English, we should attempt not only to make law to preserve the superior position of mother tongue and introduce language planning to improve the situation, but to theoretically strengthen the study and propaganda of the social mother tongue.
