The Reason and Influence of Wang Dao Promoting Idle Talk in the Early Eastern Jin Dynasty

东晋初,王导极力推动清谈之风,以之团结南方士族,安抚北方士族,进而巩固江东政权统治。他谈《声无哀乐论》、《养生论》和《言尽意论》,并非仅用于清谈场以自托风流,更重要的是以清谈的方式向南北士人宣传其政治观点。

Wang Dao promoted idle talk to hold together the southern scholars and appease northern scholars in the early Eastern Jin Dynasty. He said that On the Voice without Grief and Joy, The Theory of Health Preserving and The Thought Can Be Conveyed by Language did not only apply to idle talk, but publicized his political points of view to scholars in the way of idle talk.
