The protesting novel Native Son, which was written by Richard Wright, was in American readers' good graces in the years between 1930 and 1950. The most important reason was the emergence of a "New Negro" named Bigger Thomas in the novel, whose image was quite different from that of the traditional American Negro. The protagonist tried to win the attention of the Whites and the awe of the other black people around him through the means of violence. Bigger's protesting behavior is considered as a kind of alienation in this paper. The author tries to analyze Bigger's alienation from three perspectives, which is psychological, sociological, and philosophical. The aim is to dig out the roots for such alienation.
