In the period of enemy-occupation in Nanjing, the speculative activities like the hoarding of goods, black market transaction, smuggling activities, anti-limit price, etc., which were led by Nanjing businessmen and supported secretly by businessmen groups, was in substance a war without gun smoke by Nanjing businessmen against the Japanese and their Puppet armies. The war was one of fighting for the war" materials and the right to control free trade. It not only played a very important role in protecting people's property and maintaining the normal operation of the national business, but also interfered with and attacked the material system controlled by the Japanese and puppet armies and quickened the speed of the collapse of its economic base. So, the anti-Japanese war is the real mobilization of the whole nation, in which all those who didn't yield to the domination of enemy contributed what they should to the victory of the war.
