The main characteristics of paper mill effluent are： deep color, high value of suspended solids, off odour, high concentration of nutrients that cause eutrophication of receiving waters, and high toxicity. This paper summarizes organic compounds in paper mill effluent, the methods used for their analysis and determination of their toxicological characterization.
